About Me

I started my working life as a truck driver then in the early 1970 went to work for Col Higgins at the Buderim Drive-in Garden Centre. When I left there I was the propagator doing all the cuttings and grafting for the nursery. From there I went to work at a fruit tree nursery at Glasshouse Mountains grafting Avocados and Macadamia Nut trees. From there I had several jobs some with the government the last at that tine I left on a voluntary scheme and purchased a Queen Bee breeding operation supplying beekeepers with new queens for their honey producing hives. After a devastating disease was introduced into Queensland beekeeping industry from overseas I sold what was left of the business to another beekeeper and went back to working for the government as a weed control officer eradicating rubber vine in the Burnett and Kolan River catchments. That lasted 1 year so I went to work for the beekeeper that had purchased my business until the end of 2000 when illness forced me to give up work. I am now retired but very busy rebuilding our house after a huge termite infestation. I still get to spend a little time with my orchids and aquatic plants the rest of the garden has to wait until the house is finished then it will get all the TLC it needs to get it looking good again.

Ken,
Don't forget to have a look at the photos on the photo page of our Autumn Plant Exhibition and our 27th Coach trip with Peter. Pat

Thought I saw some native bees today high on some of the heliconias in the front garden. Haven't seen many big (imported) bees lately but our member Ken down the road in King Street has lots of bees and lovely honey. He may be able to help.
