The ABC produced a wonderful article on Edna Walling in 2011, her timeline, gardens she designed, quotes from people she knew and other items about this remarkable woman. Click on www.abc.net.au/walling for this great article and information on her.
Thanks to former President, Gwyneth Sadgrove and her husband Robert who approached the council for land to develop this garden memorial and Mr. Eaton, Rita's husband who did much of the early planting, we now have a lasting memorial to this great lady who designed some of the most wonderful gardens in Australia in the early part of the 20th Century. Gardens for Dame Nellie Melba and Dame Elizabeth Murdoch to name just a couple. She spent the last 6 years of her life in Buderim in Bendles, which is now up for sale again.
Our next bbq breakfast will be at 7:30am at the top end of Buderim Forest Park adjacent to the Edna Walling Garden on 18th June 2013.
We look forward to seeing all our members at the breakfast.
This sweet little book is available in our library. It is written by Esme Johnstone and is a personal account of Edna Walling's life. I have enjoyed reading this little gem.
Maintenance: On the following dates a group of volunteers attend to the Edna Walling Garden led by Lindsay Robertson 5456 1268 or firstname.lastname@example.org Please check the dates for the rest of the year. A very committed group of volunteers met this morning in the garden to do some planting, cutting back, sweeping, raking, watering and general clean up of the area.
We enjoyed the lovely community feeling, while the birds were singing and the sunshine shining on our beautiful Buderim Mountain.
Please make sure you look at the plants that are flowering the the Edna Walling garden in November and see our photo page for the names of the flowering varieties at this time of the year.
You can also see some of the wonderful volunteers who help maintain this lovely area in Buderim and who have worked so hard in 2011.
Thank you Lindsay and your helpers for helping to succussfully maintain our memorial to the wonderful Edna Walling
